Dr. Jeff Rouse will present a NEW biologic approach to occlusion, TMD and wear. For years practitioners have utilized mechanical approaches to minimizing damage from bruxism but have never addressed the trigger of the activity. New literature reveals that sleep bruxism is reflectively activated by sleep microarousals. These disturbances in the sleep patterns are natural occurrence but can also be caused by disruption of airway patency or a significant reduction of esophageal pH.
Today, restorative dentists must understand sleep disorders to resolve complex wear cases. This includes knowledge of sleep medicine, CPAP and dental appliances. Attendees will learn how to differentially diagnose wear and airway patients. Finally, mandibular advancement appliances will be reviewed.
TOPICS TO INCLUDE:
- Stress and Sleep Related Bruxism
- The Bruxism Triad: Sleep Bruxism, Sleep Disturbance and Sleep-related GERD
