Term 1
Date: October 4-6, 2012
Location: San Antonio,TX
This continuum is for the restorative dentist and the laboratory. In recent years, with the explosion of new materials and technologies, there is a tendency to overlook the basics. In this course we will present a current, evidence based review of the foundations of restorative dentistry, including occlusion. The first weekend begins with a review of the CORE “Global” Diagnosis Philosophy. Case presentations will walk participants through the interdisciplinary steps that have prepared the case for restoration. Practitioners must then coordinate decisions with the laboratory about tooth length, facial position and occlusal scheme to fabricate a working wax-up. Steps will be demonstrated to guarantee that casts and mountings are accurate. Options for condylar positioning will be described and techniques practiced. Finally, full crown and veneer
preparations along with provisionalization techniques will be presented.
Moving from single tooth dentistry to full mouth reconstruction makes the everyday challenges feel like they are on steroids. The provisionals must provide the laboratory the “spirit” of the final restoration and nail the
occlusion. Adjustment techniques to place provisionals in
centric relation will be demonstrated, along with discussions on improving tooth form and proportion. Predictable impressioning and accurate
interocclusal registrations complete day one. The final day will focus on several
sequencing options for rehabilitations including when the vertical dimension must
be altered. Wear and bruxism are discussed in detail. The link of bruxing, airway obstruction and reflux is presented
along with solutions.
